12 Ways to Save $500 This Month Without Feeling Deprived

November 17, 2025 · 7 min read

9. Pick Up a Side Gig (or Use What You Already Have)

If your schedule allows, using a few extra hours to earn more can help you hit your $500 goal more easily — and it doesn’t need to be a full-blown second job.

Some options:

  • Pet sitting or dog-walking — it’s in demand.

  • Sell handmade crafts (if you’re creative), or other side hustles that feel more like fun than work.

  • Freelance or odd jobs — depending on your skills, you could take on something flexible for extra cash.

Even a few hours per week can push you over the $500 mark.

10. Use Automatic Rounding or “Round-Up” Tools

Another smart trick: use apps or banking features that “round up” your purchases to the nearest dollar and deposit the spare change into a savings account. This makes saving feel invisible.

MoneyPeas, for instance, describes a technique of saving the “round-up” on each transaction — small amounts that stack quickly and don’t feel painful.
