12 Ways to Save $500 This Month Without Feeling Deprived

November 17, 2025 · 7 min read

5. Use Generic Brands and Shop Smart

Brand-name groceries, toiletries, and cleaning products often cost more for very little difference. Switching to store or generic brands can shave off a good chunk of your monthly bills.

Also:

  • Compare unit prices (cost per ounce, per 100 g, etc.) rather than just the sticker price.

  • Use cash-back apps and coupons when shopping: Tools like Rakuten, Honey, and Ibotta help you get money back or discounts.

6. Cut Utility Bills With Small Behavior Changes

Simple lifestyle tweaks can reduce your electricity, heating, and water bills:

  • Turn off lights and unplug devices when not in use — many electronics still draw power when “off.”

  • Adjust your thermostat slightly: a few degrees of difference during heating or cooling cycles can lead to real savings.

  • Fix leaks or drippy faucets, and use water-saving fixtures.

These small changes can add up to $20–$50 or more monthly.
