Best Budget-Friendly Places to Travel in the U.S. in 2026

October 8, 2025 · 6 min read

2. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Oklahoma City is one of those places people often overlook — which means prices stay friendly. The cost of living here is lower than the national average, so you’ll notice it in hotels, restaurants, and even attractions.

Visit the Myriad Botanical Gardens (free), walk through the Bricktown entertainment district, or check out cowboy and cultural history museums at low admission costs.

Why go? OKC mixes Western heritage with a growing arts scene, all at prices that make travel easy on your wallet.

3. New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans might sound expensive, but if you plan it right, it’s one of the best budget trips in the country. The secret? Street culture is free. Music flows from every corner of the French Quarter, and you can spend hours just walking and listening.

Many festivals — especially outside of Mardi Gras — are free to attend, and local food like po’boys and beignets won’t break the bank. Skip the tourist-heavy Bourbon Street bars, and you’ll find plenty of affordable experiences.

Why go? For the culture, music, and soul of a city that feels alive 24/7 — all without needing a luxury budget.
