The Cost of Aging: Is America Failing Its Seniors?

What Needs to Change

So, is America failing its seniors? In many ways, yes. The cracks in the system are obvious, and too many older adults are slipping through them. But the good news is that solutions exist—we just need the will to put them in place.

Here’s what would make a difference:

  • Strengthening Social Security to guarantee long-term solvency.

  • Expanding Medicare coverage to include dental, vision, hearing, and long-term care.

  • Investing in affordable senior housing and home modification programs.

  • Creating community-based support systems to fight loneliness.

  • Financial education and planning tools for future retirees to better prepare.

If America prioritized these steps, seniors wouldn’t just survive—they’d thrive.
