Outlook for Fall
Looking ahead, the AAA anticipates that gas prices will begin to decrease as the affected Midwest refinery resumes operations. A fully operational refinery ensures that gasoline supply meets regional demand, helping stabilize prices. Additionally, as the summer driving season winds down, there is usually a natural drop in consumption, which can further relieve upward pressure on gas costs.
However, while these trends suggest some relief, prices are never entirely predictable. Unexpected events—such as additional weather disruptions, geopolitical tensions, or changes in crude oil markets—can cause sudden spikes. Consumers should remain aware that while the forecast may be favorable, flexibility and preparedness are key.
